An alarm count indicates what response (equipment/personnel) is needed for a particular fire. The exact meaning and range of the scale changes from one jurisdiction to another. But, generally speaking, more alarms means a larger or more complicated fire. I named this puzzle "6-Alarm" as a little hint for the puzzle solution.

It's just a new take on the maker coin, but it uses less filament and comes in a standard size for easier collecting/sharing at events. I turned mine into a springy fidget (you can see the spring on the back side of the chip) because I'll use any excuse to add moving parts to a model.

It really is super chromatic. Even in person it seems to glow a little.

The print I'm assembling is in Duramic PLA (I THINK it's pronounced like "ceramic"). So far, I've used their marble and red filaments and I've been happy with both.

Thematically perfect! Since it'll hold treats, I recommend coating the inside of the base with a food-safe sealer - just to be extra safe :)

Possibly, although it makes things a lot more complex. For example, if the first dial has 10 digits and the second dial has 2 digits, you can just duplicate the second dial's numbers 5 times (1,2,1,2,1,2,1,2,1,2) and make sure it outputs a rollover 5 times as often (assuming there's a 3rd dial for it to output to). A more dynamic solution would be to use normal gears to handle the digit-to-digit conversions and then connect those to a Geneva drive so the output display flips over quickly. I hope I explained that okay, it would be a more complex system, but it could handle a dynamic range of digits per dial.

Glad you like it! I happen to be working on a future project right now that uses connectors inspired by woodworking bowtie inlays. It's amazing how often you can reuse tricks.

You can get by with fairly minimal infill since the bins are mostly walls. My default is 15% gyroid, but I'll use 10% gyroid when I'm trying to save a little filament.

A bent paperclip or similar thin wire works. It's been a few years and my hinges are still holding, but wire would certainly be stronger.

Absolutely! You can do a sweep with a single profile and 2 rails. However, this will give you less control over making an organic shape. I wanted the pumpkin ribs to morph a little as they curved around.

@@3DPrinty yeah I can see that other method working in a different way, but let's say I actually want all those copies on different planes, with different measures. isn't there a way to copy one sketch and then resize it somehow?

Yes. If you want you can select and copy curves within one sketch and paste them into a new one. In my experience, this sometimes loses some of the constraints from the source sketch, so I tend to redraw rather than copy/paste.

A new larger puzzle is definitely in the works, but I've got something special in mind for the piano - not just playing notes :) Good Printy Panel ideas. I will return to it in the future, and I'll give that a try. I design primarily in Autodesk Fusion (formerly Fusion 360).

Oh, I see what happened. Even though I uploaded the new version hours ago, Thingiverse hasn't gotten around to re-processing those files and building a new Zip. I don't believe there's a specific way to kick off that process, so we just have to wait for the site to do its thing. I'll check it again in 24 hours.

Always happy to share the entire process - the good and bad. Unless someone intentionally sets up their lighting to highlight flaws, prints you see in videos almost always look less perfect in person.

When the bottom lid is opened, it rotates so that one half of the lid pushes into the chest while the other half rotates out. The side of the door that pushes into the chest can only move if the two sliding latches are moved out of the way through the puzzle solution. If your door opens anyway, I can think of 3 possible causes: 1. The door is installed the wrong way around 2. The door is installed correctly, but the puzzle isn't in a locked state 3. The door is installed correctly and the puzzle is locked, but the long arms on the sliding latches that are supposed to wedge the door closed are bent or flex too easily. When the door is fully removed, check that the sliding latch arms slide far enough that they can be easily seen through the door frame. You may need to intentionally bend them to force a tighter fit. I hope this helps!
